It’s no secret around here…five years ago, I fell head over heels in love.
In a BIG way….
With meditation…and I have no doubt that it is going to be a lifelong romance of the sweetest sort!
Maybe one day I’ll be able to explain the mystery of how meditation crashed into my life and heart, but for now, it remains an enigma, even to me.
Though I have always been a deeply spiritual person and a seeker, I was the last person you would ever think would meditate, let alone become a certified mediation teacher (which is in the making!) But nonetheless, I found it, or it found me, and the impact on every aspect of my life is nothing short of amazing.
I often joke that I no longer recognize my thoughts, because they are so different from how I used to think.
A baseline of worry gave way to peace, and stress reactions are met with calm and clear perspective.
My desire is to share how meditation can be a beautiful and life-altering experience with you.
When Donna, a beautiful and soulful, founding participant in our weekly mindfulness and meditation group, shared a meditation app with me, after exploring it, I couldn’t wait to share it with YOU.
The app is Insight Timer, and it is one of the finest meditation apps I have come across yet. (Thank you, thank you, thank you, Donna!) There are so many reasons to love this app!
First, it has thousands of guided meditations. There is something for everyone, for every level, for every mood, or intention you may be working on.
Second, it has a community component if you wish to connect. There are thousands of groups you can join, based on your interests, and ways to connect with other like-minded individuals.
Third, it has hundreds of seasoned meditation teachers that you can explore, and when you find ones that you resonate with, you can follow them and enjoy all of their offerings.
Fourth, you can see, in real time, the number of people who are meditating and a map of the world showing where they are. You can even see who is practicing the same meditation as you. Talk about raising the collective consciousness!
Fifth, Insight Timer will track your activity so you can see how often you meditate, for how long, and which meditations you did, which allows you to track your progress.
But perhaps what I love most about this app, and what sets it apart from others is that is has a bell timer for you to practice alone, for a designated period of time that you choose, and without guidance. While I love guided meditation, for me the practice of basic sitting meditation without guidance is an important, foundational part of meditation.
So, whether you are a beginning meditator or a seasoned one, this app can support you in building, sustaining, or deepening your practice. And what’s not to love about that!
Go and get the Insight Timer app, and see what meditation can do for you!
