3 Keys to Lasting Happiness

You can be HAPPY right now, no matter what!
That’s right. I know how you can move from being heavy-hearted, down, and unhappy to light-hearted, elated, and HAPPY. And the best news is, it is available to you right here, right now…no matter what is going on in your life! Sound too good to be true? I was once a skeptic too, but I now know. I’ve spent years doing this work—studying, researching, exploring, and experimenting—and through many failures and a handful of the sweetest successes, I have found a way to be happy, regardless of what may or may not be happening in my life.
The truth is, we’ve all got stuff—relationship stuff, family stuff, job stuff, health stuff, stress stuff, money stuff, unfulfilled dream stuff, the list could go on and on. Our stuff has the bad habit of robbing us of peace, stealing our joy, and hijacking our happiness. Just like you, I have my own share of stuff but, I’ve learned some pretty amazing ways to create my own state of bliss despite all of my stuff! Even on my most stressful and chaotic days, I am capable of creating and living a blissed out life. In fact, once I started consistently practicing the things I’m about to share with you, bliss became my new norm. Before, I meandered through my days hoping to feel happy. On most days, however, I was merely existing in survival mode waiting for happiness to happen rather than taking charge. Leaving happiness to chance left me feeling dull, lifeless, and exhausted, instead of embracing each day excited, playful, and fully alive!
Every day is provides a new opportunity to be happy down to your bones!
Though simple, these three techniques that I practice daily shifted everything. In fact, as soon as I implemented even one, I began to immediately experience happiness bubbling up in my spirit and spilling over to my life. My life now feels radiant, I’m more carefree, I smile A LOT, and I feel HAPPY…every single day.
Are you ready to choose HAPPINESS? Here’s how…
1. Slow down and get present. We tend to live in a vacuum of hurry and worry. By slowing down and becoming present, we are able to cultivate a sense of peace and calm that opens us to experiencing the joy that is available to us each and every moment. To get present requires nothing more than shifting our focus to what is happening right now rather than allowing our minds to wander to that argument we had last night, or the stressful meeting we have to attend later today. For me, the practice of maintaining a present awareness creates an oasis of stillness that is infused with hope, peace, and delight. By staying anchored in the present, I am truly free and buffered from the stress and demands of daily life, and therefore, I have joy.
2. Create a happy mindset. Our mind can be our greatest enemy or our best friend. We have, on average, anywhere from 75,000 to 90,000 thoughts per day, of which 76% are recycled thoughts, meaning we think the same things over and over. If you are feeling stressed, depressed, or anxious, check in with your thoughts. Your thoughts are directly linked to how you feel. Case and point, if you are thinking, “I’m nothing but a failure,” you are going to feel like a failure. Instead, give those thoughts a makeover. A thought makeover would sound something like, “I am not a failure, I made a mistake, but I’ll do better next time.” When we makeover our mind, our feelings typically follow suit. Become attuned to your feelings and when you notice them, whether they be negative or positive, pause and link the feeling to your thoughts. Remember, practice makes perfect…and…the quality of your thoughts create the quality of your life!

3. See the world through the eyes of love. Danielle Laporte wrote, “Love infuses everything.” When I first read these words, they crashed into my heart, and I couldn’t resist but to step onto the pathway of this amazing journey of love. That was three years ago, and I haven’t looked back! Through this new lens, I discovered love is in everyone and everything—you just have to open your heart and eyes recognize it. Love is all around you! Once I began to look for love in people, I began to experience deep compassion and empathy. Once I began to look for love in my circumstances, I discovered opportunities for solutions, growth, and change. Once I began to look for love in my surroundings, I saw and felt beauty everywhere. Once I began to look for love in myself, I developed self-compassion and saw myself in a truer, more luminous light. The more you look for love, the more you see love, and the more loving you become. Who couldn’t use a little more love in their life!
Don’t get me wrong, I am a real person with real problems too, and I get that sometimes life just feels tough and happiness seems impossible. But I also unwaveringly believe and wholeheartedly know that you can be happy right now, no matter what (despite any circumstances). If I can create a state of bliss on the daily, you can too!
